stainless decking screws |
Stainless
steel screw plays an important role in building a deck is an investment in
both your lifestyle and your home's value. If you have a home situated near a
lake, a pond or any body of water, a deck is an expected feature. However, stainless
steel decking screws are not only popular in beach houses or lakeside houses
even houses atop cliffs and hills have decks. A number of homeowners prefer
decks because these provide them with an unobstructed view of their environs.
It
sounded like a quite easy task to build myself a little deck overlooking the
pool and, at first it was. The drawing up of the plans went without a hitch and
I got some really good advice on what wood to use and how it should be treated.
What I did not get told was how many different types of decking screws there
are
The next thing is: do not skimp on the cost. There is a major difference between cheap "marine grade" screws and more expensive marine screws. One of the risks of using cheap decking screws is that they strip more easily. This is especially relevant when you are using a hardwood for you deck.
Also, make sure you have enough screws. It is a
good idea to buy at least one third more screws than you think you will need to
allow for the inevitable stripping and breaking of screws, especially if you
are intending on using a cheaper variety of screw.
So, in general, it is not a good idea to be a cheap
skate when it comes to buying screws for your hardwood deck. They strip easily
and break under pressure. They are also made of poor quality metals which will
stain your wood and rust away much more quickly than a good quality screw.
